Turns out, there might have been a reason defensive end Chase Young wasn’t performing like crazy during his brief stint with the San Francisco 49ers.

Young, ESPN reports, has continued neck problems following a preseason game last season in which he suffered a stinger. And now, the former Ohio State standout is having a medical procedure done to hopefully correct whatever the issue is, Adam Schefter reports (Source: Chase Young to have neck procedure, miss part of camp).

Young signed a one-year, $13 million deal with New Orleans after a free agent visit earlier this week. Schefter reports that a source told him the Saints were comfortable enough even knowing about the neck issue to go ahead and sign Young.

The defensive end was traded to the 49ers after the eighth week of last season, and finished with 7 ½ sacks – five of them in Washington – and 2 ½ in San Francisco, including one on Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.

Injuries have been an issue for Young since he was drafted in 2020, primarily lower-extremity injuries: a torn right ACL, and then a ruptured patella tendon.
