Wilson on podcast: Would love to win two more Super Bowls, want to stay in Denver

Russell Wilson was once one of the most dangerous men in football – hence his social media tag (dangeruss – get it?)

Now, Wilson seems to be a cast-off.

Or is he? Is it just Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton that doesn’t want him? Or is THAT even right? Are the Broncos just wanting Wilson at a discount price?

Wilson sat down with Brandon Marshall on Marshall’s “I Am Athlete” podcast on Sunday and talked about all sorts of things, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN here at this report (Russell Wilson seeks 2 titles, with Broncos or wherever wanted).

And Wilson reiterated he’d like to finish his career in Denver.

“…Whether it’s in Denver or somewhere else, I hope it’s in Denver, I hope I get to finish there. I committed there, I wanted to be there. I want to be there,” Wilson said in the podcast, which is just under an hour and a half long.

Here’s the thing: like anyone else, Wilson would like to be appreciated, would like to be wanted back.

Hey, is that wrong? Don’t we all?

Here’s his quote on that, from the podcast: “For me, it’s about winning – the next two years, I want to win two [Super Bowls], I want to feel the chill of that trophy again. I love the city and everything else, but you also want to be [in] a place that wants you, too. The thing I want to do is to win, that’s all I care about.”

It’s hard to blame the guy.

Let’s not forget: interception at the goal line or not (Butler picks off Wilson to seal Patriots Super Bowl XLIX victory), this is a quarterback who guided Seattle to one Super Bowl, was on the doorstep of another, and kept them in contention for the big game every year he was there, even in the latter years when the “Legion of Boom” defense became… well, a legion of bust.

But the truth is, like every starting quarterback in the NFL (except maybe Brock Purdy), Wilson makes a LOT of money: he signed a five-year, $242.6 million contract in 2022, and is guaranteed $39 million in 2024, just like it says in Legwold’s story: whether he’s on the team or not.

Things are up in the air currently, with Wilson saying he’d like to stay in Denver but he’s not sure what the future holds; he’s put his home there on the market and doesn’t know where he’ll be; but that his goal is to win two more Super Bowls.

He told Marshall in the podcast: “Next five years I get to hold two more Super Bowl trophies, that’s my goal … that’s my plan … knowing that you want to be one of the greatest winners to play this game.”
