Let’s – Steel?

Who knows what Russell Wilson’s new slogan will be now that he’s on his third National Football League franchise, but the quarterback is expected to soon sign a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to – well – us, the Associated Press (Sources: Russell Wilson agrees to sign deal with Steelers), and multiple other NFL news outlets.

Wilson, who helped the Seattle Seahawks win one Super Bowl very early in his career after they made him a fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin, then led them to another Super Bowl that they lost to New England on one of the strangest Super Bowl endings ever (Butler picks off Wilson to seal Patriots Super Bowl XLIX victory), is now 35. He was traded to Denver and spent two seasons there: one under Nathaniel Hackett, Hackett’s only season as head coach (he was fired), and another under Sean Payton last year.

Payton, former longtime coach of the New Orleans Saints, benched Wilson – or someone did, with a few games remaining. Payton insisted the move was about football, not to save the Broncos money. Wilson went 11-19 in two seasons at the helm of the Denver offense, and was recently given permission to seek a trade.

And then there’s the other side, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ side. The Steelers bring on Wilson, a proven winner, just a couple of seasons after drafting former University of Pittsburgh standout Kenny Pickett in the 2022 draft, the 20th overall pick. Pickett was injured last year and didn’t get to finish the season – but he was 7-5 as a starter before going down.
