The young man pictured above – that’d be Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence – can do something huge today: he and his teammates, playing at home, can drop defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City into an 0-2 hole, if they can knock the Chiefs off today.
That game kicks off today at noon on CBS at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville.
The Jaguars defeated the Colts in week one, and already have an AFC South Division win under their belts.
Week two began Thursday night, of course, on Amazon Prime (that still sort of sounds odd, but, eh, what are you gonna do?), as the Philadelphia Eagles held off a late charge from the Minnesota Vikings for a 34-28 win.
Here’s today’s schedule, along with our staff picks. Picking are myself, associate editor Clayton Fletcher, my wife and correspondent Jenna Hagler Lucas, correspondents Mitchell Molandes and Shelby Thompson Molandes, photographer Alex Nabor and videographer Jacob Lucas, and my daughter Ashtyn Lucas (who was added to the mix publicly this week after she privately picked and whipped everyone’s tail a week ago when we all got off to an awful start, in both NFL and college).
Green Bay (1-0) at Atlanta (1-0), noon, FOX (an even split on the picks: four for Atlanta, four for the Pack)
Las Vegas (1-0) at Buffalo (0-1), noon, CBS (slight edge to the Bills on the pick: five for Buffalo, three for the Raiders)
Baltimore (1-0), at Cincinnati (0-1), noon, CBS (same on this game: five for Cincinnati, three to Baltimore – Mitchell tried to get cute and wrote “Joe Burrow” as his pick, so I tend to think he doesn’t believe in the Bengals as much as he does their quarterback)
Seattle (0-1) at Detroit (1-0), noon, FOX (Seahawks would be in an 0-2 hole if they lose this week, as well, obviously, and only Ashtyn has them picked to win, a 7-1 result on the pick)
L.A. Chargers (0-1) at Tennessee (0-1), noon, CBS (an even split: four for the Chargers, four for the Titans)
Chicago (0-1) at Tampa Bay (1-0), noon, FOX (Two of us – Fletch and Alex – picked the Bears, for some reason, in this game. The rest of us kept our sanity and picked the Bucs, a 6-2 result on the picks).
Kansas City (0-1) at Jacksonville (1-0), noon, CBS (Five of us have KC picked; three of us, including yours truly, have the Jaguars. I personally don’t believe Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is 100 percent, which is why I made that pick)
Indianapolis (0-1) at Houston (0-1), noon, FOX (Another even split: four for Houston, four for Indy)
San Francisco (1-0) at L.A. Rams (1-0), 3:05 p.m., FOX (49ers a unanimous pick here)
New York Giants (0-1) at Arizona (0-1), 3:05 p.m., FOX (Shelby is the only one who picked Arizona, a 7-1 pick result)
New York Jets (1-0) at Dallas (1-0), 3:25 p.m., CBS (Not a single person picked the Jets, a unanimous 8-0 pick result for the Cowboys).
Washington (1-0) at Denver (0-1), 3:25 p.m., CBS (Five folks picked the former Redskins, with three of us taking the Broncos. That tells you how yours truly picked)
Miami (1-0) at New England (0-1), 7:20 p.m., NBC (The battle of former Alabama quarterbacks, in Tua vs. Mac Jones. And no one picked Jones, a unanimous Miami pick, 8-0)
And Monday’s games have the New Orleans Saints (1-0) playing at Carolina (0-1), a 6:15 p.m. kickoff at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on ESPN, and the Cleveland Browns (1-0) playing at Pittsburgh (0-1) at Acrisure Stadium on ABC.
It was an even split on New Orleans-Carolina (4-4), and five of us picked Cleveland, three of us, Pittsburgh.
