And that’s why they call ‘em “upsets.”
In one of the biggest so far this season, the Tennessee Titans won for just the third time all year, and did it in Houston, dealing the AFC South-leading Houston Texans a 32-27 loss at NRG Stadium.
Houston is still 7-5 after the loss, and will head to Jacksonville next Sunday, a noon Central-time kickoff on FOX against the Jaguars.
The Titans (3-8) are back on the road to face the Washington Commanders, losers of three straight games, on Sunday at noon on CBS.
Titans quarterback Will Levis hooked up with Chig Okonkwo with 9 ½ minutes left in the game to give Tennessee a 30-27 lead.
A field goal that would’ve tied things at 30 by Houston’s Ka’imi Fairbairn – from just 28 yards out – was missed.
On the Texans’ final grasp, quarterback C.J. Stroud was sacked in the end zone by Harold Landry, a safety, for the game’s final score.
Tennessee overcame eight sacks on Levis and three turnovers to win the game, and one of them was a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown by Jimmie Ward. That had given the Texans a 24-23 lead in the third quarter. Fairbairn hit a 54-yard field goal to put Houston in front 27-23 before the big play from Levis to Okonkwo.
