No. 3 Alabama hosted No. 11 Texas on Saturday night at Tuscaloosa, and you might say our boss, editor/publisher/big Kahuna Mitch Lucas had divided loyalties.

You might say it, but you’d be incorrect.

Mitch grew up in northwest Alabama, his uncle the former roommate of the late, great Kenny Stabler, several relatives went to the University of Alabama, and then Mitch himself went to Alabama. He’s as Roll Tide through-and-through as you get.

And then there’s his daughter, Teresa Leigh, and son-in-law, Nate, who went to and met each other at – you guessed it – the University of Texas.

So Mitch, while he appreciates what coach Steve Sarkisian has done for the Longhorns, is sitting this one out while I bring this news to you: Texas pulled off the upset, beating Alabama 34-24 (Here’s a game story: No. 11 Texas overwhelms No. 3 Alabama with fourth-quarter surge to win 34-24 (yahoo.com), and ending Alabama’s lengthy streak of home wins over non-conference opponents that dated back to 2007.

It’s so early in the season that Alabama (1-1) can work its way back into the national championship race. Texas will likely vault up the rankings.

It’s week two, dude.
