Shanahan hopeful Bosa will be in lineup for 49ers-Steelers

While the Kansas City Chiefs appear to be having mega-issues with defensive tackle Chris Jones, and it appears Jones will miss the season opener Thursday against Detroit, the San Francisco 49ers hope to avoid that problem with their own defensive superstar.

David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com is reporting that 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan is hoping to have defensive end Nick Bosa at practice next week – meaning, of course, that Shanahan is hoping, planning, whatever word you’d like to insert there, to have Bosa reach a deal with the club prior to that time.

Bosa is arguably not only the 49ers’ best defensive player, he’s also a legitimate candidate for the NFL’s defensive player of the year, and might be, along with Jones, the best pure pass-rusher in the league, currently. Bosa had 18.5 sacks, 41 tackles and two forced fumbles last year.

San Francisco opens the season this Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. Eastern time on FOX.
