After three straight wins and (sort of) shocking the league by being at the top of a muddled NFC West – in part thanks to injuries and erratic play by the San Francisco 49ers – the Arizona Cardinals went into Seattle flying high on Sunday.
They came out with clipped wings.
The Seattle Seahawks sacked Kyler Murray five times, got a 69-yard interception return for a touchdown by Coby Bryant, and a touchdown catch by Jaxon Smith-Njigba in a 16-6 victory over Arizona that felt a lot more one-sided than that.
The win moved the Seahawks (6-5) and Cardinals (6-5) into a tie atop the division.
Leonard Williams had a monster game for the Seahawks with 2 ½ sacks, four hurries, and six tackles.
The Cardinals haven’t beaten Seattle on the road OR at home in over three years (six meetings).
Murray finished with 285 yards and the pick-six. Geno Smith had 254 yards and the pass to Njigba, whose touchdown was the first offensive touchdown given up by the Cardinals since a game against Miami three weeks ago.
It was also, incredibly, Seattle’s first home win of the season.
The Cardinals will be back on the road on Sunday, a noon Central-time kick at Minnesota, on FOX, and Seattle will play at the New York Jets, also a noon kick and also on FOX. The Jets were off this weekend.
