Jets coach Robert Saleh told the media Monday that the team is sticking with the former BYU signal-caller, despite all the growing pains, and despite the latest loss.

“It’s hard to make changes just to make changes, just to pacify something, especially when someone is not deserving of that,” Saleh told the media on Monday. “If he was deserving, I gotcha, let’s change something. That’s always [the case] for every position.”

The Jets are 4-5 on the season, the latest setback a 16-12 loss on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” to the Las Vegas Raiders in Vegas, and had a chance to win at the end – Wilson gave what some might have seen as a gutty performance, throwing for 263 yards, including a Hail Mary heave under tremendous pass rush at the end. But he also threw an interception at 1:14 left in the game, and the team had to use all three of its time outs in order to get the ball back and give the offense another chance.

Wilson’s detractors likely saw it as another mistake-prone night and yet another reason to go to another quarterback until Aaron Rodgers can get back from his torn Achilles – if, in fact, the rumors are true and Rodgers might, maybe, possibly make it back this season, if the Jets can get into the playoffs.

Isn’t that a chicken-and-egg situation, though? Don’t you have to get into the playoffs to have Rodgers come back for them?

The other two quarterbacks on the Jets’ roster, besides Rodgers, are Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian, although Siemian is currently on the practice squad.

The Jets play at Buffalo on Sunday.

Saleh, who is also under fire from Jets fans, to be fair, defended his young starting quarterback.

“He’s much better than he was a year ago,” Saleh said. “He’s year one in a new system — a system that was built for Aaron — let’s be real — and we’re trying to make a shift to where everyone is comfortable.

“I think [Wilson] is doing a good job. It’s not all perfect — there’s been some peaks and valleys — but [Sunday] we were moving the ball. … To try to pinpoint it all on one person, with everything that’s been happening, I don’t see how that’s productive.”
