It’s rugby time, everybody!!

Not really, but the Kansas City Chiefs are making a little news this week, agreeing to a contract with Louis Rees-Zammit, a 23-year-old rugby star from Europe.

ESPN is reporting that Rees-Zammit would be used as possibly a running back or wide receiver, because – heaven knows – the Chiefs need more talent. Yes, you can feel the eyeroll in my verbiage here.

Read here (Wales’ Rees-Zammit joins NFL international player pathway) about Rees-Zammit’s decision to try a career in the National Football League.

“I have had the incredible honour of playing rugby for my country which, as a proud Welshman, I’ve never taken for granted. However, I believe that this is the right time for me to realise another professional goal of playing American football in the US. Those opportunities don’t come around very often,” Rees-Zammit is quoted, in that story.

For the first time in NFL history, the league is allowing each team a 17th spot on their roster for the practice squad made available exclusively for an international player., and teams can move an international player from the practice squad to the main roster three occasions through their season.
