The National Football League’s trade deadline is rapidly approaching: it’s Halloween, Oct. 31.

And as thefootballbeat.com had in a story earlier this week (Cousins not even aware of trade talk, says his focus is on Chicago | The Football Beat that speculation is running rampant in the league that, following the loss of wide receiver Justin Jefferson to an injury, Cousins – a free agent after the season – might go to the highest bidder, so that the Vikings can at least get something in return in case the quarterback walks.

On Saturday, though, multiple outlets reported Cousins won’t waive that no-trade clause (Vikings QB Kirk Cousins reportedly won’t waive no-trade clause). And if that’s the case, the Vikings’ hands are tied.

Cousins is 35, and is in his sixth season in Minnesota after spending the first few with the team that drafted him, Washington. In the previous five seasons, the Vikings have made the playoffs twice.

Currently, Cousins leads the NFL in passing touchdowns (13), in spite of the Vikings’ awful record. He’s completed 67 percent of his throws for 1,498 yards.

And things aren’t any better on the Jefferson front, either. Jefferson, the defending NFL Offensive Player of the Year, injured a hamstring in a 27-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend; he was put on injured reserve, and Saturday it was reported that Jefferson might miss more than the four games that players are required to miss when going on IR.

Minnesota (1-4) plays at Chicago (also 1-4) in an NFC North loser-leaves-town on Sunday at noon, Central Time, on FOX.
