Ok, now this is a juicy one.

Are the powers-that-be at Clemson University contemplating a move from the Atlantic Coast Conference?

At least one report says yes.

According to a report by The Post and Courier, picked up for another story by awfulannouncing.com (Clemson could leave the ACC ‘sooner than later’ (awfulannouncing.com),

The story, originally done by The Post and Courier’s Gene Sapakoff, notes that no program has left the ACC, even with all of the realignment and movement in college football, likely because of the conference’s media rights deal with ESPN.

Apparently, the ACC and its member schools are locked into a deal with ESPN until 2036, and there is a $120 million fee if a program decides to leave the conference.

The story on awfulannouncing.com somewhat speculates that either the Southeastern Conference or the Big 10 are the most likely landing spots.

Could the wild and crazy rivalry between Clemson and South Carolina become a conference game? It would, should the Tigers join the SEC. Could Clemson face Ohio State, Michigan and other Big 10 programs on a weekly basis? That possibility lies out there, too, although one would think being in the South, the more natural choice for the university would be the SEC. But there are clearly obstacles.
