Last year, when Alabama came to face Texas in Austin, to say the University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band didn’t receive a warm reception from the Texas administration would be an understatement.
The MDB was going to be placed in the upper deck of Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Now, the band elected not to make the trip to Austin. Don’t mess with Texas, after all. Isn’t that what they say?
Turns out, Alabama officials have decided they WILL, in fact, mess with Texas.
They’re doing the same thing.
A story on FoxSports.com (and other places, but we like this one: Alabama returns favor, placing Texas band in upper deck at Bryant-Denny Stadium | FOX Sports) notes that not only, of course, is the University of Texas band being placed in the upper deck and Bryant-Denny, but the Texas allotment of fan tickets, as well.
Longhorns fans will need to keep their eyes on one of the four jumbotrons in each of the corners of the stadium, or have really, really good binoculars to see what’s going on down on the field.
Last year, Alabama’s players got the ultimate revenge. Texas gave the Crimson Tide all it wanted for all four quarters in front of a packed house, but then-‘Bama quarterback Bryce Young pulled off a few football miracles, and Alabama’s Will Reichard booted a field goal with 10 seconds left to get the Tide out of the fire with a 20-19 win.
Can Texas coach (and former Alabama offensive coordinator) Steve Sarkisian return the favor?
We’ll all find out Saturday night. Kickoff for the game is set for 6 p.m. on ABC.
