With a nickname like “Chop” – as in, pork chop, or maybe it’s karate chop, or something – would you expect someone to run the 40-yard-dash in 4.48 seconds?
Well, that’s what Penn State’s Demeioun “Chop” Robinson did on Thursday at the NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
At the event formerly known as the “Underwear Olympics,” it was edge-rusher day on Thursday, time for the defensive ends to showcase their talents for the scouts, general managers, owners, what coaches were on hand (and that’s decreasing year by year), fans and others. And Robinson turned in an impressive time, the second-best of the day, an unofficial split of 1.54 seconds at 10 yards – but maybe the most impressive, considering Chop is 254 pounds.
He also had a broad jump of 10 feet, 8 inches, tied for best.
The best 40-time of the day was Alabama’s Dallas Turner, but Turner weighs seven pounds less.
Robinson, who missed three games last season, had four sacks, but only 15 tackles last year, 7 ½ for loss.
Quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers hit the state Saturday at the combine. The NFL Draft, of course, is the event for which everyone is preparing; that is April 25-27 at Detroit’s Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza.
