When we released Monday’s injury news, we figured there would be some add-ons.
Unfortunately, we were right.
The New York Jets’ second win of the season at Denver on Sunday has proven costly, very costly, indeed. Right tackle Alijah Vera-Tucker, considered by many evaluators as the Jets’ best offensive lineman, has had an MRI on Monday and it revealed he has a torn Achilles tendon.
Ironically, Vera-Tucker was also injured last year at Denver, also a season-ender, a triceps tendon midway through October.
The Jets were already without left tackle Duane Brown due to a hip injury, although he is expected to return in three to four weeks – he’ll come off injured reserve in week eight, right about the time the Jets are scheduled to face the New York Giants.
And of course, the Jets lost starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a torn Achilles on the season’s fourth play from scrimmage.
Several media outlets, including espn.com, are reporting that Miami Dolphins rookie running back De’Von Achane has a knee injury that is being evaluated.
Coach Mike McDaniel admitted the injury on Monday, and that he suffered the injury in the Dolphins’ Sunday 31-16 win over the New York Giants. McDaniel declined to say whether Achane was having an MRI or whether he would miss any time due to it.
Of the more immediate nature is an injury to Green Bay running back Aaron Jones, who injured his hamstring in the season-opening win against Chicago, played only a handful of snaps against Detroit, and was expected to play Monday night in Las Vegas against the Raiders.
But Jones has been ruled out for Monday’s game, and the team has signed Patrick Taylor from the practice squad to the active roster. Linebacker Julian Hollins was released to make room for the signing. A.J. Dillon will get the start, it is expected. Taylor on the season has nine carries for 29 yards and has three receptions for 23 yards in very limited action this year, all for Green Bay, obviously.
San Francisco left guard Aaron Banks was injured Sunday night in the Niners’ 42-10 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Banks had an MRI on Monday that revealed a mild shoulder strain, coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday, and that Banks is day-to-day.
Dallas linebacker Leighton Vander Esch may not be so fortunate.
Coach Mike McCarthy told the media Monday that the Cowboys are weighing putting Vander Esch on IR after he was injured at the 14-minute mark of the fourth quarter, a neck injury where he collided with Micah Parsons.
Neck injuries are nothing new for Vander Esch, who missed three games a year ago with problems, and also in 2019.
Obvioiusly, going on IR means a player has to miss at least four games.
