Welp, the balloon burst on that really quickly.

That is, if you were for the Green Bay Packers to beat the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime.

Now, if you were for the Detroit Lions, it was a completely different story.

The Lions took control, at least for now, of the NFC North Division, dealing Jordan Love and the Packers a 34-20 defeat Thursday night at Lambeau Field. (Recap: XXXXXX)

David Montgomery had a big role in the Lions’ win, scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 121 yards, as the Lions ran their record to 3-1 with the victory. The Packers are behind by one game (they’re 2-2) and a half, in effect, since the Lions technically own the tiebreaker, at least until the teams meet again later this season in Detroit.

It was Detroit’s fourth straight win over the Packers, the first time they’ve beaten their division rival four consecutive times since the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

The Packers came back from 17 points down a week ago to beat the New Orleans Saints, 18-17, but that was without Saints QB Derek Carr in the lineup. Carr left the game with an injured AC joint in his shoulder.

And it looked like for a moment that another comeback might be coming.

Detroit took a 27-3 lead into the half, and the Packers had only 21 first-half yards.

But in the second half, Love threw a touchdown to Christian Watson and ran for another score, completing 23-of-36 passes for 246 yards. Then, however, he threw two interceptions, both to Jerry Jacobs.

For Green Bay in the loss, Romeo Doubs had 95 yards on nine catches. But Aaron Jones had only 18 yards on five carries, and A.J. Dillon did worse, going for just 11 yards on five carries as well. Green Bay had only 27 rushing yards in the game.

Detroit had 211, though, with Montgomery’s performance, 40 yards each by Kailf Raymond and the rookie, Jahmyr Gibbs.

Goff went 19-of-28 for 210 yards, a touchdown and a pick, and is now 11-3 in his last 14 games.

The rest of the NFL’s week four schedule resumes on Sunday.
