What happens when the man who’s considered the number one receiver in the league by many has nine catches for 150 yards, and loses?
It happened today.
Justin Jefferson had nine catches for a buck-50, as they say, and came up on the short end on the scoreboard, along with his Minnesota Vikings teammates, and did so at home. The Vikings lost a 20-17 decision at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as the resurgence of Baker Mayfield’s career continues.
Mayfield, now the starting quarterback for Tampa Bay, had a pair of touchdown passes, and the unheralded Chase McLaughlin hit a 57-yard field goal with just over five minutes left for what would be the game-winner.
Dave Campbell chronicled the contest for the Associated Press, here from abcnews.com: Buccaneers top Vikings 20-17 as Baker Mayfield finishes strong in his debut – ABC News (go.com).
Tampa Bay will host Chicago next Sunday – the Bears are stinging after dropping their season opener at home to Green Bay. And the Vikings will hit the road, going to see Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night.
