So much for missing time.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is likely to get the start for Sunday’s home game against playoff-hopeful Houston, Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirmed on Thursday.
Mahomes participated in the full practice on Thursday, and also was a part of full practices on both Tuesday and Wednesday, even after apparently being diagnosed with a “mild” high ankle sprain.
Mahomes was injured in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ 21-7 win at Cleveland last Sunday afternoon, sandwiched between Browns defensive tackles Dalvin Tomlinson Mike Hall Jr.
His back-up is former Philadelphia draft selection Carson Wentz.
Anyone who’s ever had a high ankle sprain – editorializing a little, because as a dancer, I have – would question if there’s a such thing as a “mild” one. It is PAINFUL.
“He did look good out there. He moved around pretty good. So, you’re always looking to make sure they can get out the way, not to further any harm to them. So that’s what I look at,” Reid said today. “I’ve been through it with him before and he amazed me every time he does it. The guy – he’s been so mentally-tough and just puts it in to a mindset…”
Kansas City hosts Houston Saturday at 1 p.m. Eastern / noon Central on NBC / Peacock.
The game is important to the Chiefs (13-1), who are trying to wrap up home field advantage and a first-round bye in the AFC, and avoid going somewhere like Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, etc., in the first week of the playoffs.
Houston (9-5) has already clinched the somewhat-pitiful AFC South.
