What do you do when you’re on top?

Well, you find a way to stay there.

You convince your three-time Super Bowl-winning brilliant head coach to come back, and not retire. Check. You convince your best defensive player (Chris Jones) he’s better off coming back under some kind of deal and winning here than elsewhere. Check. You franchise-tag cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

And then you talk quarterback Patrick Mahomes into restructuring his deal (Sources — Patrick Mahomes to restructure Chiefs contract). I mean, he’s going to get paid, anyway. And he’s on every freaking commercial – well, every one that teammate and friend Travis Kelce ISN’T on, and some of them (see State Farm) they’re on together, even with coach Andy Reid.

Face it, folks: it’s the Kansas City Chiefs’ world right now, and we’re just living in it.

The deal with Mahomes – well, it’s his deal: he’s scheduled to count about $58 million against the salary cap, and they need some help.

His contract runs through the 2031 season and to his credit, this isn’t the first time Mahomes has restructured his deal to help the franchise. He did so before the 2021 season, too.

The Chiefs, who just defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, are seeking to become the first team ever to win three straight Super Bowls.
