Our long, national nightmare is over.

Well, it wasn’t really long. Or national.

And it wasn’t really a “nightmare.”

But if you’re a Dallas Cowboys fan, you can apparently rest easy, because wide receiver No. 1, CeeDee Lamb, has reportedly re-signed with the team for four years.

Here at TFB, we’re not really believers that fans are worried about what these guys make, but if you are, here’s what we’re hearing: a four-year deal worth $136 million, with $100 million of the deal guaranteed, and a $38 million signing bonus up front. ESPN’s Todd Archer, the network’s Cowboys beat writer, reported that was the largest signing bonus ever (as in, the history of the National Football League) for a wide receiver.

In his four seasons in the league, Lamb has 395 catches for 5,145 yards, and 32 touchdowns, including having a touchdown catch in nine straight games, a streak he’ll start the season with. He also has 18 games with over 100 yards or more receiving, a Cowboys record.

This contract means Lamb is the highest-paid wide receiver in the history of the Cowboys’ franchise. Considering this is the franchise of Drew Pearson, “Bullet” Bob Hayes, Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant, that’s some high cotton we’re walking in, right there.

Had he not re-signed (not “resigned;” that means to quit something), Lamb’s upcoming season would have been his final one in Dallas on his original rookie contract. Obviously, neither side wanted that pressure, and with just about two weeks before the season began, we get news of the new contract.

Lamb had been holding out, but it’s likely that holdout fines will be waived. Or heck, maybe owner Jerry Jones is in a bad mood, and they WON’T, for all we know.

At any rate, the Cowboys open the season at Cleveland on Sunday, Sept. 8.
