Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt – who can normally be found on your TV dial (dial? Used to be called that, when it was an ACTUAL dial to turn the channel) on the 11 a.m. (Central Time) game every Saturday on Fox Network – has decided to release his list of teams that are true contenders for the national championship, and those who are, well.. not.

Klatt, known almost as much for his own podcast and for his appearances jousting with Colin Cowherd on Cowherd’s daily show on Fox Sports 1 and radio broadcast, obviously lists the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs as one of his legitimate contenders (Klatt: 10 college football teams that are legitimate national title contenders ).

“This is the most obvious one, not because I think they’re a great team this year, but it’s obvious. Georgia is the most obvious team because it’s going to be the toughest out in the country,” Klatt wrote. “This is a team that, from a roster standpoint, is as good as any out there. Kirby Smart’s team has the ability to continue to get better the entire season because they are not going to be tested.”

To be fair to Klatt and to Fox Sports, we won’t name any more; read the story to see who Klatt says are “legimitate.”

Maybe not legitimate, according to Klatt, is Alabama this year.

“Alabama is a really good football team. It’s like that prospect in the NFL Draft that might not have a high ceiling, but has a really high floor,” Klatt wrote. “That’s what kind of team this is. It’s not a top-end team this year. Nick Saban’s team is still really good and will probably play for the SEC Championship. While it has a path, I don’t think Alabama is legitimate.”

There are a few other surprising names on that list, as well.

Klatt is becoming one of the leading voices in the sport, and his opinions are presented in such a way that they are always entertaining.
