Kansas City too much for Denver, 19-8

Maybe the AFC should be realigned every two seasons, like Texas high school sports.

Maybe then, someone would have a chance of catching the Kansas City Chiefs, because right now, it appears no one in the division is poised to do it.

Kansas City beat Denver – again – on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium, 19-8, and live on Amazon Prime’s “Thursday Night Football.” (Mahomes throws TD pass, Kelce has big game with Swift watching again as Chiefs beat Broncos 19-8

And it felt like a lot worse beating than that.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes passed for 306 yards, a touchdown and an interception; tight end Travis Kelce, joined once again by girlfriend-significant other pop star Taylor Swift, had nine catches for 124 yards; Harrison Butker booted four field goals; and Denver quarterback Russell Wilson was stymied again, throwing for 96 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

It was the Chiefs’ 15th straight win over Denver, dating back to 2015, when Peyon Manning was still the Broncos’ quarterback – and the team has had six coaches since then.

To be fair, with about six minutes left, the Broncos did get within eight – 16-8, to be exact – on a touchdown pass from Wilson to Courtland Sutton, then a two-point conversion run by Javonte Williams.

But Mahomes and company got out unscathed again, getting Butker in position for a 52-yard field goal, which he hit with 1:55 left to ice the contest. Earlier in the game, right before halftime, Butker hit a 60-yarder.

The Chiefs are now 5-1 overall, having won five since losing at home to Detroit on opening night. Denver is 1-5, and grasping for answers.

Denver will host Green Bay next Sunday, and Kansas City will host Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers.
