Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt releases his top 10 every week of the regular season, and sometimes it’s not “news-y.”
This week, it might be.
Klatt, who normally does the 11 a.m. game with Gus Johnson on FOX Network, doesn’t have controversy at the top: his top two teams, Georgia and Michigan, are the top two in the Associated Press poll and in the USA Today / AFCA Coaches poll.
Number three is where Klatt differs, and you won’t see Ohio State – not even in his top five.
That’s right. Klatt has Florida State at three, newbie Oklahoma at four after their win over Texas last week, and Penn State at five (even though the Nittany Lions have played West Virginia and a toychest full of toys so far this season, but that’s my opinion).
The Buckeyes, who have a last-second win over Notre Dame in South Bend to their credit, don’t show up in Klatt’s poll until sixth.
Ohio State, to be fair, beat a Notre Dame team that has two losses. But when they defeated them, the Irish were unbeaten. That win would look a lot better for Ohio State if Notre Dame knocks off Southern Cal this Saturday.
Klatt does say what a lot of analysts this week have said: the Buckeyes were less than impressive in the win over Maryland, 37-17, last week.
“…When you watch that game, it just didn’t have the feel of a 20-point blowout,” Klatt wrote, in the FoxSports.com piece on his top 10 (2023 college football top 10 rankings: Joel Klatt’s top 10 teams after Week 6 ).
Also of note, Klatt doesn’t have Texas or Alabama in his top 10. All of his top 10 are unbeaten. And honestly, it’s hard to argue with that.
