Jets trade for Haason Reddick

A couple of years ago, it would have been just about unthinkable for the Philadelphia Eagles to trade away edge rusher Haason Reddick.

It’s not unthinkable now. In fact, it’s happened, not only being reported by TFB, but by ESPN, the Associated Press and other media outlets (Sources: Eagles sending edge rusher Haason Reddick to Jets).

Our link to one of the stories just gave it away, but there it is: Reddick, who is a flat-out disrupter in the offensive backfield when he gets there, is being traded to the New York Jets.

Reddick, 29, will go to the Jets for a conditional 2026 third-round draft pick that will move up to a second-round pick if he has double-digit sacks, and plays more than 67 percent of the Jets’ defensive plays.

Reddick, involved in the play that injured San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy in the NFC Championship Game of the 2022 season, had 11 sacks and 38 tackles in 2023, and played in every single game that the Eagles played, not missing a contest. He and Cleveland’s Myles Garrett are the only two players to have over 10 sacks in all of the last four seasons.

As for the 67-percent-of-plays stipulation, every season is different, but Reddick easily went past the 67-percent-mark last year (74 percent of the Eagles’ plays).

This comes with a huge price-tag for the Jets – Reddick’s base pay for 2024 is $14.25 million.

The trade follows a recent free agent signing where former Jets pass rusher Bryce Huff signed with Philadelphia, and the Jets’ inability to bring Jadeveon Clowney, among other free agents, into the fold.
