Well, you go 2-9, and not everybody is gonna be happy.

Is that an understatement, or what?

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy, who just completed his 20th season and the Cowboys had that record, had been asked by the administration to take a pay cut – they wanted him to take a restructured deal.

The former OSU quarterback met with the school’s athletic department officials on Friday and has agreed to do so.

It had been rumored (by someone? Who starts these things?) that if Gundy didn’t agree to the deal, which includes a significant pay cut, then he’d be out.

Gundy – who gained fame in 2007 defending quarterback Bobby Reid from the media, he said, in his famous “I’m a man! I’m 40!” speech (Mike Gundy’s ‘I’m a man, I’m 40’ rant at Oklahoma State [FULL] ) – is 169-88 in his tenure at his alma mater. And he’s flirted with leaving before: for Tennessee twice, for example.

This year was a rough one to be an Oklahoma State player, coach or fan. The Cowboys lost nine straight games this season and didn’t win a game in the Big 12 Conference.

There was a precedent for a contract adjustment. He agreed to a reduction in pay in 2020, and that next year, the university had announced it had restored him to his original salary (from $4 million a year back to $5 million).

Gundy’s contract prior to the new deal was through the 2028 season.

More details on the contract will be released, and we’ll have an update here on TFB when they are.
