Those of you who were actually alive prior to Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and HORACE GRANT – the original three-peat Chicago Bulls – terrorized the NBA in the early 1990s might remember the cute little nickname that some of the U.S. media gave the Bulls that surrounded Jordan: Michael Jordan and the Jordanaires.
If those same media members had to cover the Atlantic Coast Conference in modern-day times, would they call it Clemson and the Clemsonaires?
Probably not, at least not anymore. Well, maybe. But Trevor Lawrence has long since hit the bricks, swimming down in the waters of Jacksonville now, playing for the NFL’s Jaguars. And the Dabo Swinney-led Tigers didn’t look all that invincible losing to Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks a season ago.
Bleacher Report’s Morgan Moriarty put together a pretty nice ACC preview here (https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10086712-acc-football-preview-and-predictions-for-2023-season) that also includes predictions. And we won’t spoil it for you – we’ll let you check it out.
Let’s just say that you won’t be surprised that the conference’s top player comes from another team besides Clemson and that his name rhymes with Blake Faye.
Now, in a couple of years, will the ACC – you know, the ATLANTIC COAST Conference, actually have Pacific coastal teams Stanford and Cal as members?
Your guess is as good as ours. But we hope not. That would be almost as awkward as Jordan playing his final years as a Washington Wizard.
And nobody wants that.
