Hill says he’s “out” of Miami

Someone needs an intervention.

That someone is Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Hill didn’t go on an angry rant after Miami’s season-ending loss at the New York Jets on Sunday – he just matter-of-factly stated he was “out,” and was done in Miami.

After falling to the Jets, 2-20, on Sunday, the Dolphins finished 8-9 and barely missed the AFC playoffs – a Denver Broncos win over a Kansas City team resting its starters allowed the Broncos to take the AFC’s seventh and final playoff spot, a wild-card.

Miami needed a win over the Jets and a Denver loss in order to get the Dolphins into the postseason.

After the game, Hill had this to say, a moment of “reflection.”

“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs,” Hill said. “For me, I just have to do what’s best for me and my family, if that’s here or wherever the case may be. I’m about to open up that door for myself … I’m out, bruh. It was great playing here but at the end of the day, I have to do what’s best for my career.”

Here’s the problem: the Dolphins and Hill agreed to a $106 million restructured contract before THIS SEASON started, taking him up two years. Hill won’t be a free agent until after the 2026 season.

Hill had 81 catches for 959 yards and just six touchdowns.

Hill also didn’t play in Miami’s last two drives on Sunday against the Jets, and coach Mike McDaniel did admit to reporters afterward that there was not an injury concern.

As for McDaniel’s thoughts on Hill’s statement to the media in the locker room…

“”It would be unfair for me to match emotion with emotion, right after a game when your season ends, when you are fighting for it to extend and with the full belief that you have the ability for that to happen,” the coach said.

“I’m not going to make a rash judgment on something that, again, it’s a little cloudy in the heat of the moment for multiple reasons. So, I know clarity will be found and you do move forward with conviction as a football team, and I’ll look forward to having conversations with him this week.”

To be fair, one could understand Hill’s frustrations.

Starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has missed significant time again this season and the Dolphins seem to be a different team – in a great way – when Tua plays.

Miami also had two three-game losing streaks during this season.
