The New York Giants’ waiting on Aaron Rodgers to possibly be their next quarterback might just be over.

According to – well – himself, quarterback Jameis Winston has signed a deal with the Giants.

Winston posted the news on his X / formerly Twitter account Friday.

“Start spreading the news,” Winston said, posting an animated apple alongside it.

Reports from other media outlets have Winston’s deal at two years for $8 million.

Winston, 31, was most recently with the Cleveland Browns. He joins Tommy DeVito as the only two quarterbacks currently on the Giants’ roster, but the franchise has made known their intentions of bringing in more to the quarterback room. They’ve visited with both Joe Flacco and Russell Wilson, and they have the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft in April.

The Giants cut former No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones during the season, and were linked, along with the Pittsburgh Steelers, to Rodgers. Rodgers was released by the New York Jets earlier this offseason and pursued a roster spot with the Minnesota Vikings. On Friday, Rodgers was in Pittsburgh, visiting with members of the Steelers organization.

Wilson, a former No. 1 pick by Tampa Bay out of Florida State, where he won a national championship in 2013, was technically a back-up to Deshaun Watson in Cleveland. But Watson was injured, a torn right Achilles, in October and missed the rest of the season.

Winston became the starter, and did have his moments, including a win over Baltimore. He was eventually benched late in the season, but not before he set the Browns’ record for passing yards in a single game (497 yards) in December, in a loss to Denver. The Browns went 2-5 with Winston as a starter.

In 2024, Winston completed just over 61 percent of his throws for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions, and in his career, over 105 games, he’s thrown for 24,225 yards, 154 touchdowns and 111 interceptions, completing 61 percent of his throws.
