Talk about proving a point.

For moments during Sunday night’s game between No. 5 LSU and No. 8 Florida State, FSU quarterback Jordan Travis appeared overwhelmed, and even flustered.

The fourth quarter didn’t have many of those moments.

The Seminoles had to fight and claw, and overcome some penalties, but they blew open a 17-17 game and turned it into a second-half blowout, dealing LSU and coach Brian Kelly a 45-24 beatdown, and the last touchdown by LSU was in, as they say, garbage time.

The Associated Press detailed the game here: LSU 24-45 Florida State (Sep 3, 2023) Game Recap – ESPN.

Kelly didn’t mince words after the game.

“The buck stops with me, and I’ve got to get our football team to understand and recognize that you’ve got to play this game for four quarters with a mentality,” Kelly said. “We just did not, for some reason. We thought we were somebody else. We thought we were the two-time national champion Georgia Bulldogs or something. I don’t know what we thought, but we were mistaken.”

LSU gets in-state, tradition-filled but small-school Grambling this Saturday, and Florida State, which had already been considered a national title contender and likely cemented that thought with the win, will host Southern Miss.
