That’s exactly where I’m going to be, in my recliner where I am just
about every Saturday of the fall from September until the New Year,
watching college football on my wide screen television.
Yeah, I’m a college football fan.
And, the games start at 11 a.m., so if I have any errands to run in the
morning they’ll be done before then. There’s a plethora of games from
which to choose early today. Penn State at Illinois and LSU at
Mississippi State or Florida State at Boston College catch my attention.
Will the Nittany Lions have a white out against the Illini in Illinois, can
that even happen? Or will the Bayou Bengals, LSU, recover from their
early season loss to Florida State in what should be a competitive SEC
contest in Starkville? Or, you ask, can the nationally-ranked now No. 2
Seminoles continue on the warpath they’ve been on at Boston College?
The 2:30 time slot features South Carolina visiting top-ranked Georgia.
Yeah, the ‘Cocks could possibly give the ‘Dogs their toughest text of the
young season, if the game wasn’t between the hedges.
Or I could wait to see how Bama, with a new starting quarterback, an
NIL transfer from Notre Dame, does on the road, coming off its 34-24
loss to Texas last weekend in of all places Tuscaloosa. Today, they’re at
South Florida. In all honesty, my car and the little money I currently
have in my pocket, would be on Roll Tide Roll. Don’t know what the line
is, but I’m thinking Coach Saban will have a walleyed fit to be tied if
South Florida comes out and gets ahead.
Jeez.
Next up is A&M in the 3 o’clock SEC slot. Hmmmm, interesting, will
Sarge and the Aggies, I mean Jimbo, recover from the loss to Miami.
Playing at home should help. So should playing Louisiana-Monroe.
Another SEC game, that draws my attention is Tennessee at Florida on
ESPN at 6 p.m. A few other games to choose from then are South
Alabama at Oklahoma State, Tarleton State is in Lubbock to face Texas
Tech. Will the Red Raiders get back on track or Prairie View is at SMU.
Thirty minutes later BYU is at Arkansas. My wife is from Arkansas and
taught me how to call the Hogs, and Georgia Tech, with Longview’s
Haynes King quarterbacking, is on the road at Ole Miss.
The 7 o’clock fare, and this is sore subject with me, is Wyoming at
Texas, my Longhorns, playing on the infamous Longhorn Network. I
used to get the LHN, but I sacrificed when Dish raised their rates. But,
HookEm nevertheless. I’ll be listening to Craig Way, one of the best in
the business barring none, and a friend on the radio call from DKR.
Yes, I was one of those that picked the Horns to beat Bama. And, they
did, making me so happy, the way they did it with defense and Quinn
Ewers finally finding some consistency throwing deep to a bevy of
talented receivers. I hope the Longhorn fans that said after the Rice
game that Arch (Manning) should be quarterbacking would just hush.
Arch will get his time, but this is Quinn’s time and he showed everyone
why Coach Sarkisian’s decision was a wise one.
I’m one to believe in the glass being half full instead of half empty. The
Longhorns last year in the Big XII before moving to the SEC with
Oklahoma will be good enough to win the conference title for the first
time since 2009.
Wyoming isn’t Bama, but it’ll present a challenge, probably more than
one to be frank. Coaches call it a hurdle. My question is are you good
enough to get over, after such a physical and emotional win against
Alabama. Wyoming is this week’s business. And the Big 12
commissioner put his whole conference on dampening the Longhorns’
success. So, I’m embracing the hate, like the Longhorns should be
doing.
TCU visits Houston, also at 7 p.m., but Coach Prime and the Buffaloes
play Colorado State at 9 and I’ll probably be listening to the ‘Horns and
Wyoming, but watching Colorado. Deion and the Buffaloes are the story
of college football, at least for now, on this noon to midnight shift I’m
currently on.
