My wife’ll tell you, she often hears me mumbling about wishing Saturdays in the fall would come sooner than seven days apart. I admit it, I shouldn’t be greedy, but I am.

Fortunately, for me, I married lucky, Sonya is a keeper, almost as big a college football fan as I am. We’ve been known to spend our Saturdays watching any number of games on our widescreen television.

Today, let me pick and choose, at least for us. There’s Southern California and Colorado at 11 (Central) this morning on FOX. The schedule-makers didn’t do Coach Prime and his Buffaloes any favors, following the Oregon  loss with Caleb Williams and the Trojans. The last time I looked, Williams won the Heisman last year and may win it again this year. Although USC didn’t lose last week, they dropped three spots to No. 8 in the Associated Press poll. Maybe home field will be an advantage for the Buffs. I hope the outcome is closer than the Oregon game last week was for Colorado.

There are a slew of other games today and tonight and your team is probably playing. To name a few: Florida at Kentucky; A&M and Arkansas at Jerry World; Houston at Texas Tech; LSU at Ole Miss; Bama at Mississippi State or West Virginia at TCU.

My afternoon though, is No. 24 Kansas at No. 3 Texas at 2:30 in Austin on ABC. A couple of unbeatens and another chance for all the Anti-Horn fans hope Texas will crash and burn since the Jayhawks’ offense will be the biggest test the Texas defense has yet to face.

There’s no doubt there’s no Dorothy with this program anymore as Kansas coach Lance Leipold has turned things on its ear with a solid stable of running backs and a veteran, play-making quarterback in Jalon Daniels. This will be Daniels’ third career game against UT, and his second at DKR Memorial.

I hate with a passion to admit Daniels led his team to a 57-56 overtime victory here against my Longhorns in 2021. Don’t think coach Steve Sarkisian’s memory failed him and he’s forgotten it, or his Longhorns haven’t heard about it more than once in preparation for today’s game.

Kansas, like Texas, averages more than 30 points a game, so, this could be interesting.

Could the Longhorns be thinking ahead to next week’s Red River Rivalry at the Fairgrounds in Dallas against Oklahoma? Quite possibly, but, to continue what they’ve started — an unbeaten season — Quinn Ewers and friends, along with the Texas defense, must play like they mean it in all phases of the game for four quarters.

I believe they will.
