ARLINGTON – Welp, the mystery that our own Mitch Lucas talked about in “What’s Causing All This?” is a mystery no more.
ESPN is reporting that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers will enter the NFL Draft when the Longhorns’ 2024 season is over, be it tonight, after the Goodyear Cotton Bowl and the game against Ohio State, or after Jan. 20, the College Football Playoff National Championship game in Atlanta.
Ewers broke the news on ESPN’s “College GameDay” prior to kickoff of the Cotton Bowl here at AT&T Stadium. Ewers didn’t absolutely close the door, but when asked, said, “We’ll see,” and that he didn’t expect to play college football next year.
The quarterback, from Southlake Carroll High School in the Dallas/Metroplex area, is a fourth-year senior who has led the Longhorns (13-2) to 27 wins and eight losses, and two appearances in the College Football Playoff. He’s also a transfer from Ohio State.
This season, Ewers is 270-of-406 for 3,189 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He did miss some time this season, with Arch Manning filling in. But Ewers has been back for some time now; he led the team to playoff wins over Clemson (in Austin) and Arizona State (in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl).
For his career, Ewers has passed for 8,845 yards, 66 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions.
