The Dallas Cowboys have picked up the fifth-year option for a fairly-popular member of their roster, you might say.
The Cowboys have picked up the 2025 fifth-year option on edge rusher Micah Parsons, the franchise said Wednesday afternoon. But the team still plans to sign Parsons, considered by many to be one of the best pass rushers in the National Football League, to a contract extension.
According to Todd Archer, ESPN’s Dallas Cowboys beat writer, Parsons is set for a $21.324 salary in the 2025 season, fully guaranteed, and he’s listed as a defensive end (Cowboys pick up fifth-year option for star pass-rusher Parsons). Archer notes there that the Cowboys would like to sign Parsons to a long-term deal.
Of course they would! Parsons, whom the team made a first-round pick out of Penn State in 2021, has been to the Pro Bowl all three seasons he’s been in the league, and he has 40 ½ career sacks, 14 of them a season ago. He’s finished two times as the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year and third on one occasion.
The team is currently in high-profile contract negotiations with wide receiver Cee Dee Lamb, whom, according to Sports Illustrated, isn’t yet taking part in the team’s voluntary offseason program because of those negotiations (EXCLUSIVE: Dallas Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb ‘Staying Vocal’ Despite Missed Workouts).
Another receiver, KaVontae Turpin, is quoted in the story that the team and players are staying in touch with Lamb and that they’re looking forward to getting him back with them.
Lamb is still under contract for one more season, a one-year, $17.99 million year. He had 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns last year. The 135 catches led the NFL.
