So far, Indianapolis rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson looks like a solid pick – when he’s on the field.

And that won’t be for a while, thanks to another injury.

Richardson, who missed time earlier this season as a part of the NFL’s concussion protocol and was also pulled from a game with a knee injury scare, is being placed on injured reserve by the team, meaning he’ll have to miss at least the next four games, and it’s possible more than that.

Richardson was injured with just over four minutes left in the first half against Tennessee last Sunday, a game the Colts went on to win, their third win of the season so far. But Richardson has a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder, his throwing arm.

Worst-case scenario: surgery is required, and Richardson could miss the rest of the season.

Colts coach Shane Steichen said Tuesday that at this point, everything is in play. “We’ll see,” Steichen told reporters. “We’re still evaluating with the doctors.”

So far this season, Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the draft out of the University of Florida, is 50-of-84 for 678 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also ran for 136 yards and four touchdowns.

The Colts have a more-than-capable backup in Gardner Minshew, who is already passed for 553 yards and two touchdowns. Minshew will become the starter for now, with Sam Ehlinger, the former University of Texas standout, serving as his backup. The franchise signed Kellen Mond to the practice squad on Wednesday.
