Do the Atlantic Coast Conference’s championship hopes ride on Florida State’s ability – or inability – to knock off LSU tonight?
Well, that’s a ridiculous jump to a conclusion, one way or another.
But the Seminoles will take on coach Brian Kelly’s LSU Tigers, the defending Southeastern Conference Western Division champions, tonight at 6:30 p.m. on ABC.
The game is in Orlando, and is a top-10 matchup: LSU is number five, Florida State number eight.
But some might say it’s a battle of respect for not just Florida State, who hasn’t really been in national championship contention since it won its last title a decade ago with Jameis Winston and Jimbo Fisher roaming around down in Tallahassee, but for the ACC, as well.
It’s long been thought that Clemson was the conference’s lone championship hope. If Florida State can, for a second straight year, beat LSU and continue to win and maintain a semblance of dominance over conference rivals, the ACC would have at least two title contenders.
That’s a big if.
