BOWL ROUND-UP (Except the Cotton): Clemson edges Kentucky late; Irish spank Oregon State; Memphis impresses in hometown over Iowa State

Clemson and Kentucky played a barnburner that came down to the final seconds, Notre Dame and Oregon State played the opposite and it very much DID NOT come down to the final seconds, and Memphis put on an offensive show in its own hometown.

Those were the bowl games earlier in the day on Friday, as Clemson scored late to outlast Kentucky, 38-35, in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl (Mafah runs for 4 TDs, Clemson rallies to beat Kentucky 38-35 in a wild Gator Bowl); Notre Dame absolutely laid the smack down on the Beavers in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl in El Paso (No. 15 Notre Dame cruises to a 40-8 win over No. 21 Oregon State in the Sun Bowl), and as mentioned, the Memphis Tigers got to play in Memphis, beating Iowa State, 36-26, in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl (Seth Henigan figures in 5 TDs, Memphis shuts down Iowa State’s run game in 36-26 Liberty Bowl win).

At this writing, it’s a low-scoring game here in Arlington, as half of the staff of The Football Beat is here at AT&T Stadium for No. 7 Ohio State against No. 9 Missouri, a game the Buckeyes are leading 3-0 midway through the first half.
