Well, Stefon Diggs is no longer a problem – if indeed he ever was one – for the Buffalo Bills.
That’s because he’s no longer in the organization.
Diggs was traded Wednesday morning to the Houston Texans, according to just about everybody, but here’s one source: ESPN, without a single writer’s credit (Sources – Bills finalizing trade of star WR Stefon Diggs to Texans).
Rumors have swirled for at least a couple of seasons that Diggs would be on his way out of northern New York, and today, on April 3, it’s true.
Buffalo is sending Diggs to Houston for a second-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, and in return, the Texans – who were really a year early, blooming under coach Demeco Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud – get a truly gifted receiver in Diggs, a sixth-round pick this year and a fifth-rounder in 2025.
So to get rid of a distraction, which the Bills have continually denied that Diggs has been, they moved him by sending him to a fellow AFC title contender, and included a couple of mid to late-round picks, as well.
Unloading Diggs, if we can call it that, helps the Bills ultimately in payroll, as well. Diggs signed a $104 million, four-year extension two years ago, this month. Buffalo’s dead-money amount that they’re on the hook for after the trade is much less: just over $31,000.
Diggs joins Stroud and also former Cincinnati running back Joe Mixon, a solid nucleus for a young, upcoming team, although Diggs himself is 30, he’s still a big producer on the field. In 2023, he had 107 catches for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns.
The receiver, drafted by out of Maryland by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015, played the first five years of his career there, and has played for Buffalo the last four (2020-23). He’s played in 136 career games, has 810 catches and 9,995 yards, 67 touchdowns, and averages 12.3 yards a catch.
