Bill Belichick is just becoming a talking head, isn’t he?
Well, we’ll believe that when we see it. And we’d love that, by the way. Who has more football knowledge than THAT guy?
It was announced Thursday that Belichick, who has more NFL wins than ALMOST anybody (not named Don Shula), will join the panel of analysts on “Inside The NFL,” the longest-running series that discusses the league.
“Inside The NFL” has aired 48 seasons and is produced by NFL Films. It is now on The CW Network and for many years, was on HBO. Belichick joins a crew that includes former players Chad Johnson, Chris Long and Ryan Clark – Johnson and Long each played for Belichick in New England.
“I’m thrilled to join my new team at NFL Films and to work on such a historic television franchise,” Belichick said, in a press release. “I’ve always appreciated “Inside the NFL’s” depth of analysis, and I hope to bring the same detailed insight to The CW by talking real football with real pros – Ryan, Chris and Chad – this coming season.”
Belichick, the former coach, of course, of the Patriots who led the team to six Super Bowl championships and won two more as an assistant early in his career with the New York Giants, had already agreed to appear on the “ManningCast” on the ESPN family of networks during “Monday Night Football.”
It’s also likely he’ll be making future appearances on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show” after being a part of the NFL Draft coverage.
He’s apparently, and to no surprise, very good. His work on the NFL Network’s “NFL 100 All-Time Team,” by NFL Films back in 2019, earned him a Sports Emmy nomination for outstanding studio analyst.
Belichick went 324-157 in 481 games coached in the NFL (Cleveland and New England), including playoff games, a .671 win percentage.
He guided the Patriots to wins in the 2001 season (beating the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI), the 2003 season (beating the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII), the 2004 season (topping the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX).
They went about a decade between titles, losing to the New York Giants twice in that time frame before finally breaking through and getting another Super Bowl win, beating the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. Two years later, they had to make a comeback, and did so, down 28-3 to Atlanta in the third quarter, but forced overtime and won Super Bowl LI, for Super Bowl title No. 5.
The 2018 season would bring the final title to the Boston area under Belichick, a win over the upstart Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII.
