There was a time that if a star quarterback showed up on campus driving a brand new Lamborghini, there would have been NCAA investigators crawling on him tighter than the red paint on the body of the car.
Nowadays, in the world of name, image and likeness – hey, man, all’s fair in love, war and college football.
That’s the message in this story on outkick.com from Georgia quarterback Carson Beck (Georgia QB Carson Beck: $300K Lamborghini Isn’t A Big Deal), who might actually be driving a nicer car now than he could afford if he were the quarterback for an NFL franchise.
Beck, if you haven’t heard, just bought a new Lamborghini Urus Performante that runs north of $300K. To say it draws a little bit of attention would be like an 18-year-old in Iowa bringing WWE star Liv Morgan to his prom (Liv Morgan WWE Monday Night Raw, February 12, 2024).
“I mean, yeah, it’s not a big deal at all in my opinion. It’s like I said. I love cars. I got a car. That’s really all it is,” Beck said. “Obviously a lot of people are going to look at it and say what a terrible decision, what a terrible choice with his money. But it’s just a car. It’s not too big of a deal. I just drive it around.”
The Bulldogs’ quarterback, as outkick.com writer Barrett Sallee points out, is the current favorite to win the Heisman Trophy (+800). But Georgia has a more difficult schedule than normal that includes a non-conference game against Clemson in Atlanta, and trips to face Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ole Miss in Oxford and Texas in Austin.
Maybe Beck can trade his Lamborghini for a magic wand – and wave it, to get the Bulldogs a ‘W’ in those three games, and the rest of their challenging 2024 schedule. It’ll be a lot more impressive than the slate they played in ’23.
