Earlier in the week, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus told wide receiver Chase Claypool he wouldn’t be playing in Thursday night’s game at Washington, and on top of that, don’t cone to Halas Hall, either (the team’s headquarters).
As it turns out, Claypool likely won’t have to worry about doing that ever again.
Claypool has been traded to the Miami Dolphins for a sixth-round pick in 2025, espn.com is reporting (Dolphins trade for Chase Claypool, put Terron Armstead).
The Bears are sending a seventh-round pick to Miami along with Claypool, the report notes.
Miami also placed Terron Armstead, a left tackle, on injured reserve, and had recently placed receivers Erik Ezukanma and River Cracraft, the former San Francisco 49er, on IR.
Claypool, who was traded to the Bears from the Pittsburgh Steelers last November, played only 10 games for Chicago. The Bears get to save $2.2 million on their salary cap with the trade – and apparently get rid of a headache in the process. For Claypool’s part, he’ll get to play a role in a Miami offense that leads the league in passing yards per game, joining a receiving corps that includes Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill.
The 25-year-old had complained about how little, apparently, he was being used by the Bears, and was made inactive after the Bears’ 31-28 loss at home to Denver last weekend. The Bears then made him inactive for the Washington game – a game that wound up being the Bears’ first win of the season – and noted he also wouldn’t be at the team’s facility.
Chicago General Manager Ryan Poles took the high road on an ESPN radio show this week. “I think Chase is going to learn from this situation, we all will, and I wish him luck moving forward throughout his career,” Poles said.
