Ezekiel Elliott is set for a big day on Sunday in Arlington.

That would be former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott – now a member of the New England Patriots, the visitors to AT&T Stadium Sunday.

The Cowboys are planning a tribute to Elliott upon his return (Cowboys set to honor former RB Ezekiel Elliott vs. Patriots, but should they?). That’s a great gesture, but the 28-year-old running back, who spent seven years in Big D, is the opposition.

Maybe tributes should wait until Elliott’s career is done, and he isn’t trying to – you know – beat the home team.

Fox Sports’ Skip Bayless, who appears each weekday on the debate show “Undisputed,” argued that the Cowboys shouldn’t do a tribute this week – basing his argument on Elliott’s decline after signing his contract before the 2019 season, as Elliott’s numbers have dropped steadily since.

To no one’s surprise, it was former Cowboys great Michael Irvin who defended the tribute to Zeke.

“Zeke put up 1,600 yards his rookie season, 15 touchdowns,” Irvin said. “He should’ve clearly won rookie of the year. They gave it to Dak Prescott because Dak started and had a great season that season, but it clearly was Zeke that led that football team.

“He should be honored; he meant a great deal to this team. [They] went 13-3 that first year, pulled [them] right up out of the gutter.”
