AP’s Russo: More than four undefeateds when Selection Sunday rolls around?

Associated Press lead college football writer Ralph Russo could be onto something.

Russo, once based in Jackson, Mississippi (he may or may not remember me – I was once a sportswriter in Meridian, Mississippi, in Columbus, and in Vicksburg), is a heck of a writer, and has risen through the AP ranks through hard work, and just because he’s honestly very good at what he does, and he makes an astute assumption here.

We’re all waiting for teams to get beat, and this year, that may just very well not happen.

There may be more than four unbeaten teams this season going into Selection Sunday.

In his reality check this week (AP Top 25 Reality Check: A top-five of perfect 10s has been unchanged for five weeks), and I don’t want to spoil it, Russo kicks around the possibility that more than four teams could remain unscathed through the final couple of weeks, and folks, we’re almost there.

Not only are the unbeaten teams still going, there are quality one-loss teams there, like Oregon, Texas, and Alabama.

I won’t waste any more time: click on Ralph’s link, and give it a read.
