“Seinfeld” character George Costanza was famous for his “it’s not you, it’s me” technique.
In the most famous reversal case of “it’s not us, it’s you” in recent NFL history, the Los Angeles Rams effectively told Jared Goff he was no longer needed, even after helping the Rams get to a Super Bowl.
Now, they did lose that game to the New England Patriots, but last we checked, that was a team loss.
At any rate, Goff was replaced in L.A. by Matthew Stafford, and the Rams went on to win a Super Bowl shortly thereafter.
What happened to Goff?
He’s in Detroit, of course, where he opens the 2023 NFL season tonight for all the world to see against the Kansas City Chiefs, a 7:20 p.m. kickoff on NBC.
ESPN’s Elizabeth Merrill has a story on Goff and how he might be the perfect fit for the Lions and their quarterback problem (Lions QB Jared Goff, jilted by L.A. Rams, at home with Detroit – ESPN).
Remember, though: it’s not you: it’s clearly me. (Seinfeld – It’s Not You It’s Me – YouTube).
