According to several media reports, including one in the state of Arkansas, University of Arkansas head football coach Sam Pittman will be back for the 2025 season.
Brett McMurphy of The Action Network seems to be the most noted national name to report the news. From X / Twitter: “Arkansas coach Sam Pittman will return in 2025, source close to program told @ActionNetworkHQ. There was speculation Pittman may retire, but Pittman, 29-31 w/3 bowl games, will return for 6th season at UA. He is scheduled to undergo hip replacement surgery on Tuesday.”
Arkansas went 6-6, and while it’s easy to point to a signature win (at home over Tennessee), and the fact that they lost by just four at home against Texas A&M, the ‘Hogs don’t really have a bad loss. They played both Texas and Missouri very well, and Arkansas did have two wins more in ’24 than in ’23.
Still, Arkansas is 29-31 under Pittman, and some fans are not happy about his return.
Again, from X / Twitter:
“This is absurd,” a supposed Arkansas fan “tweeted.” “[Brett] Bielema through 5 seasons at Arkansas was 29-34 (11-29 SEC) and was fired. Yet Pittman is 29-31 (14-28 SEC) and retains his job? Make it make sense, cause I can’t figure out why Arkansas would accept this fate. Please do the respectable thing and retire, Sam.”
There are thousands more similar tweets.
But wouldn’t it be fun to ask the disgruntled Arkansas fans who ‘Hogs leadership should hire if indeed Pittman had been let go?
