The Detroit Lions are the favorites today over the Green Bay Packers.
Well, of course they are. It’s Thanksgiving.
They always win on Thanksgiving.
But the thing is, they’d probably be the favorites if this game weren’t being played on Thanksgiving.
Brett Favre is no longer the Green Bay quarterback. Neither is Aaron Rodgers. Mike Holmgren no longer coaches the Packers. This isn’t the 1990s anymore. Or the 2000s. Or the 2010s, for that matter.
This is a new day in Detroit. And the Lions are 8-2.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed it with his recent statement that networks wanted the Thanksgiving game today (Roger Goodell says TV networks are asking for NFC North-leading Lions, who host Packers on Thursday), but we all knew it. This is a different day in the NFC North, where what was up is down, what was down is up, and Jared Goff is getting it done (completing 64 percent of his passes, 2,743 yards, 16 touchdowns, eight interceptions, fifth-highest yardage total in the season so far).
This is the early game. Setting the table for an meh-game between Washington-Dallas and then what should be a barnburner between Seattle and San Francisco in Seattle tonight.
