To say the New York Giants season has really stunk might be an understatement.
But the season is only half-way over. And as coaches and players, you never want to just give up. That’s not the mentality of an athlete.
When your starting quarterback goes down, though, like the Giants’ starting quarterback has, it’s tempting.
Daniel Jones had season-ending surgery on his right knee on Monday, ending his 2023 season, officially (Giants quarterback Daniel Jones out for the season with torn ACL in right knee).
Jones was the sixth overall pick in the 2019 draft under then-General Manager Dave Gettleman, and already was dealing with a neck injury this year, with which he missed three games. He was injured in Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Giants (2-7) went on to drop the game against the Raiders, 30-6, and are in a mess, to be honest. Backup Tyrod Taylor is on injured reserve with a rib injury, and they have a rookie, Tommy DeVito, that was promoted from the practice squad last week, on the roster, as well as former Southern Cal star Matt Barkley.
DeVIto went 15-of-20 for 175 yards, a touchdown and two picks against the Raiders on Sunday.
Dallas (5-3) is New York’s next opponent, coming off a loss to Philadelphia last weekend.
