Dallas linebacker Micah Parsons didn’t do one heck of a lot against the Los Angeles Chargers for 59 minutes of “Monday Night Football.”
But he made one heck of a play to help finish it.
With the Cowboys leading by three points in the final moments on ABC, at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was hit by Parsons, sacked. On the next play, Herbert was picked off by Stephon Gilmore, giving the ball back to the Cowboys and allowing them to run out the final minute and change on the clock. Dallas won, 20-17 (Dak Prescott, Cowboys rally in fourth quarter for a 20-17 victory over the Chargers).
Brandon Aubrey gave the Cowboys the three-point lead on a 39-yard field goal with 2:19 left in the game.
The Cowboys go into their open date this weekend with a 4-2 record, and with a loss by the Philadelphia Eagles (5-1), Dallas remains just one game out of the NFC East Division lead. After their open date, Dallas has a home game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Oct. 29.
For Dallas in the win, Dak Prescott was much more efficient than in the ridiculously-bad loss to San Francisco. Prescott went 21-of-30 for 272 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 40 yards and a score on seven carries.
Receiver CeeDee Lamb, who pulled a disappearing act against the Niners (the SF defense had something to do with that), was also much better against the Chargers. Lamb had seven catches for 117 yards. And it was Brandin Cooks who caught Prescott’s TD pass.
Parsons only had two tackles and the sack in the game, but he had fantastic timing. That was also the only sack of the game for the Cowboys.
In defeat, Herbert went 22-of-37 for 227 yards, two touchdowns and the pick thrown to Gilmore.
