Cousins not even aware of trade talk, says his focus is on Chicago

Don’t ask Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins about possible trade rumors involving him and – well, him.

Sports talk shows and debate shows all over the place have been speculating Cousins could be moved in the last week, ever since all-everything receiver Justin Jefferson was injured and placed on injured reserve – the idea being that the Vikings, who are 1-4 on the season, are not really a contender, and since he’s a free agent after this season, why not get what they can get for Cousins now?

The trade deadline is Oct. 31.

“You know, I am just very focused on the Bears and going 1-0 this week, and anything else is not worth my time or energy or attention,” Cousins said, on Wednesday.

It’s been well-noted in all of those aforementioned talk shows that Cousins would have to give his permission to be traded anywhere: he has a no-trade clause in his contract.

Apparently, though, Cousins doesn’t watch those shows, because he claimed this trade thing was new to him.

“Ignorance is bliss, and I’m just really ignorant,” Cousins said. “I don’t really have access to a whole lot, and I try to do that by design. So it’s pretty intentional. Aside from high school friends who may text me who they’re reading… I really don’t know what’s going on. I’ve been insulated at times to the point of being naïve and a little stupid, but I’d rather err on that side than consuming everything. …I takes your focus off what is important and what will help you play well.”

Cousins is currently second overall in passing yards in the league, behind only Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa – Cousins is 137-204 for 1,498 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions, but he has already been sacked 13 times this year.
