You’ll have to excuse us if our site looks like the official Kansas City Chiefs website, or a fan site, today.

But the Super Bowl champions not only kick off the season tonight against Detroit, they’re also making news.

Tight end Travis Kelce, who hyperextended his knee earlier this week, will not play tonight against the Lions, ESPN is reporting (Source – Chiefs’ Travis Kelce out vs. Lions due to injured knee – ESPN). That takes away one of, if not the, primary target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes against a Lions team that looked much better last season, led by a capable quarterback themselves in Jared Goff.

On the defensive side, the news is good for Goff, but gets no better for KC. Defensive tackle Chris Jones won’t be in uniform tonight, either. Jones has been holding out for a new contract, and won’t play until he gets it – at least, he won’t play against Detroit, according to NBC Sports (Chris Jones will watch tonight’s game from his stadium suite – NBC Sports).

No matter who’s playing, the game will kick off on NBC at 7:20 p.m.

And we’ll have a wrap-up story afterward, here on thefootballbeat.com.
