San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy might not have finished his rookie season the way he wanted.
But he sure looked healthy on Sunday in Pittsburgh.
And so did Christian McCaffery. And Brandon Aiyuk. And just about all the 49ers.
Well, T.J. Watt did, too, and had a great game. But in spite of three sacks, the 49ers still rolled the Pittsburgh Steelers, 30-7, in the season opener for both teams on Sunday.
Here’s the recap by Will Graves of The Associaed Press: Purdy throws 2 TDs in return from elbow surgery; 49ers drill Steelers 30-7 in season opener (msn.com).
Purdy was 19-of-29 for 220 yards and two touchdown passes to Aiyuk. McCaffery had 151 yards rushing and a touchdown, and caught three passes for 17 yards. Rookie kicker Jake Moody hit three field goals, and the only injury the 49ers had to deal with – which sounds like a big one, but it happened late in the game, and no one is particularly sure – was to left tackle Trent Williams, who left the game late, grabbing at his side.
San Francisco’s defense frustrated Pittsburgh’s offense all day. Kenny Pickett was 31-of-46 for 232 yards and a touchdown, but also threw two interceptions.
The 49ers will play at the Los Angeles Rams next Sunday; the Steelers will host the 1-0 Baltimore Ravens next Monday night on ESPN.
